Golf in Spain, USPCosta de Almeria may not have the most courses in Spain per square mile but it does have some of the best. The jewel in the crown has to be the Desert Springs course. This 18-hole course is an easy 15 to 20 minute drive from the resorts of Vera, Garrucha, Mojacar and Palomares. Designed by Peter McEvoy, it is the first desert course to be built in Europe. Professional golfers claim that Desert Springs is on a par with the famous courses in Arizona and California.

About 10 minutes from the capital Almeria is Alboran Golf. This championship 18-hole course is designed by Ramon Espinosa and is situated close to the beach. La Envia is slightly further away from the capital, being about a 20-minute drive to paradise. The 18-hole course is ideally situated in a picturesque valley.

Golf in Spain, USPThe Northern Costa Blanca has never been sold as a golfer’s paradise. Nevertheless the region provides some excellent courses for those who enjoy the sport.

North of Denia is Oliva Nova Golf, an 18-hole course designed by Severiano Ballesteros in 1995. It is undoubtedly one of the best courses on the Costa Blanca and in many ways is American in style with water features prominent. The course is close to the beach.

Golf in Spain, USPThe southern end of the Costa Blanca is an old favourite with golfers as it is home to many excellent courses. Southern Costa Blanca is considered to be everywhere south of Alicante and as far as the border with Murcia. Golf Club El Plantio is just south of Alicante. There are two courses – a lovely 9-hole course and an 18-hole course. The latter was opened in 2000 and was designed by Manuel Ferry.

La Marquesa Golf is located at Rojalis and situated in the Urbanization Ciudad Quesada. The location of this 18-hole course is convenient for the coastal resort of Guardamar. The course has short holes, spacious fairways, and large greens and is therefore ideal for the intermediate level golfer.

Golf in Spain, USPCosta Calida is fast becoming Europe’s golf capital and is often referred to as the Costa Del Golf. The proliferation of courses inland from San Javier and the Mar Menor has further led to this area being called Golf Valley.

La Manga Club, with three championship courses, is one of Europe’s finest golfing destinations. The 18-hole South course was designed by Robert D. Putman in 1971 and was subsequently completely remodelled by Arnold Palmer in 1992. The 18-hole North course was also designed by Robert D. Putman, and was completely refurbished in recent years. The West course was designed by Dave Thomas. La Manga Club is thought by many to be the top sport's destination in Europe.

There is a tremendous number of Costa del Sol Golf Courses stretching along the coast - far too many to describe in detail however they all have one thing in common: the fantastic sunny and dry climate that allows golfers to play all year round.
