Costa Calida is fast becoming Europe’s golf capital and is often referred to as the Costa Del Golf. The proliferation of courses inland from San Javier and the Mar Menor has further led to this area being called Golf Valley.

The grand project that was Polaris World includes several different courses. These courses are located in various developments – all within a 25km radius. Amongst these courses is Hacienda Riquelme Golf, located 4km from the town of Sucina, with 18 holes and perfectly situated only about 20km from the coast. Even nearer to the coast is another 18-hole golf course, La Torre Golf, located just outside Roldan and only 10km from the sea. A third course located in the area of Banos y Mendigo is El Valle Golf – considered to be one of the most attractive 18-hole courses in the area. Close to the town of Torre Pacheco is Mar Menor Golf. The design of these courses is by Nicklaus Design with Jack Nicklaus himself playing a prominent role in the planning and design process.

La Serena Golf is an 18-hole course located at Los Alcazares right on the Mar Menor. This superb golf course was designed by Manuel Pinero.

The Lorca Resort Golf offers 27 holes of terrific golf. Set on the foothills of the Sierra Almenora nature reserve, it is located close to the border with Almeria. Lorca is 10 minutes in one direction and Aguilas is 10 minutes in the other. The golf course, surrounded by spectacular scenery, was designed by Dave Thomas and Jorge Soler.

Close to Mazarron lies Saladillo Golf (Sensol Golf) with its 18-hole course. The course was designed by Don Manuel Quesada and was originally only 9 holes; however an additional 9 holes have since been developed.

At Fuente Alamo there is the Hacienda Del Alamo Golf which is reputed to be the longest layout in Spain. This course was also designed by Dave Thomas.

Roda Golf is not surprisingly located close to Roda and only 5 minutes away from the beaches of the Mar Menor. The 18-hole course was designed by Dave Thomas Ltd. Close to Sucina is the 18-hole Club de Golf La Peraleja, brilliantly designed by Severiano Ballesteros.

Mosa Trajectum Golf is located in the area of Banos y Mendigo. The 27-hole course was designed by an entire team of professionals, with Brian Connelly and Peter Hoogcarspel being vital members of that team. A little further afield, some 10km northwest of Murcia City, is Altoreal Golf. This championship, 18-hole course, designed by Dave Thomas, proves that you can enjoy great golf and superb mountain scenery and yet be close to the city of Murcia while only a 20-minute drive away from Alicante.
